The Collector
**** The Collector. Adult.
Directed by: Brad Armstrong.
Starring: Jessica Drake, Aria, Mike Horner, Randy Spears, Tommy Gunn
No video preview for this one--you'll have to look it up yourself.
This was a gorgeous film, which won four Adult Video News Awards, including best art direction, best non-sex performance (Mike Horner), and best screenplay (Brad Armstrong). The awards were well-deserved.
Jessica Drake plays Cynthia, the assistant to Malcolm, a wealthy collector played by Mike Horner. Malcolm collects anything and everything, until one day Cynthia breaks a hand mirror he'd collected, and that seems to be the catalyst for him to collect something new: sexual experiences. But as a true collector, he only wants to observe his collection, not be part of it himself.
So Cynthia is tasked with providing him with those experiences, finding others to perform for his enjoyment, sometimes joining in, and sometimes simply keeping Malcolm company while he watches.
There's a nice variety of sex scenes and mostly attractive actors. Even a couple of muscular men, which you don't always see in porn movies.
There is a story--though it's fairly thin, it's still quite a lot more than an excuse for sex scenes. There's actually character development and change, as we see Malcolm becoming more jaded, and the effect of her job of Cynthia.
But the best thing about The Collector is the impressive balance between sensual cinematography and hardcore porn. The sex scenes are explicit--nothing's left to the imagination--but the feel of the scenes is erotic rather than dirty. That feel is enhanced by the first-person voiceover narration by Cynthia, who gives her own feelings and opinions as the story unfolds. It's a higher budget film, and it shows in the beautiful sets and the artistic shots. Don't get me wrong--sex is definitely the point of the film. And it's not one of those like The Widow that sticks in unusual camera angles just to be artsy. The Collector uses camera angles and closeups in a way that enhances the story and the mood.
I definitely recommend this one, particularly for couples.

**** Date From Hell. Adult.
Directed by: Jonathan Morgan.
Starring: Ron Jeremy, Serenity, Jonathan Morgan, Johnni Black, Leanna Hart, Mandi Frost
Fun couples flick.Originally posted on Sugar DVD. You can google it if you're really curious.
Date From Hell is a series of short vignettes featuring members of a date from hell support group. each segment shows the fantasy date, followed by a short, humorous scene of what "really" happened. No anal, no threesomes or group action. Lots of facials. The actress in the 2nd segment has some really scary-looking implants. Not the best, but enough humor and interesting positions to make it an entertaining couples flick.

*** Beautiful. Adult.
Directed by: Michael Raven.

Beautiful is a good couples flick, particularly for those new to the genre. It's a cute take-off on the Snow White story (no seven dwarfs, though!), and has attractive actors and decent production values. For more seasoned viewers, however, there's a lack of variety in the sex scenes, and there's not quite as much humor as I've come to expect from Wicked features.Originally posted on Sugar DVD (you can google it if you like).

1000 Words
** 1000 Words. Adult.
Directed by: David Stanley.
Starring: Carmen Hart, Chris Cannon, Derrick Pierce, Eric Masterson, Gianna Lynn, Jessica Lynn, Randy Spears, Roxy Jezel
I have to admit that the low rating on this is probably primarily due to the way we watch porn--in half-hour increments, separated by several days. Usually, this isn't a problem. But 1000 Words isn't your usual adult film.
It's very stylish and artsy, in black and white, and it's silent--a picture being worth 1000 words, right? I think it's a movie you have to really pay attention to, or at the very least, pay some attention to and watch it straight through. We were completely lost, and didn't have a clue what was going on.
It was nice to look at--the people were pretty, and the black and white was interesting. The sex scenes... well, I'd have liked some context for them. After you've seen a few porn films, the sex scenes develop a sort of sameness without having at least some story to go with them.
I wouldn't mind giving this one another shot, but we'd definitely have to watch it in one sitting.

Free Lovin'

*** Free Lovin'. Adult.
Directed by: Michael Zen.
Starring: Claudia Chase, Mark Davis, Randy Spears, Syren, Tony Tedeschi
We got this from Sugar DVD, primarily because of Randy Spears. Sadly, he wasn't in it much.
Donna (Claudia Chase) and Steve (Mark Davis) move into a new apartment and immediately, they begin dreaming of other partners--Steve dreams of a sorta-dominatrix (Syren), and Donna of a biker (Tony Tedeschi). Turns out the partners they're dreaming of are their new neighbors, Kismet and Jesse.
They give Donna and Steve a "magic lamp"--a lava lamp (cracked me up)--that's supposed to bring... well, I don't really remember exactly what it's supposed to bring, but when either of them rubs it, they get sex.
Randy Spears is Rudy, the handyman, and he doesn't have much to do. Too bad--the movie could have used more of his humor.
There was a good variety of sex scenes--oral, anal, lesbian, and a party at the neighbors'. There was also an outdoor scene (Donna and Jesse), and one in a workshop (Rudy and Jolene, the landlady).
Most of the actors were reasonably attractive, but the landlady was scary looking: fake tan and bolted-on implants, and Jesse had man-boobs and flabby arms. Ick.
Something unusual about this one was the number of extreme close-ups. You could use it for anatomy classes.
Yeah, I know not to expect too much in the way of story-line, but this one had the bones of a story, so I was disappointed that it didn't follow through. A couple who's not getting along real well follow their fantasies in a new place, with the help of a magic lamp--they really could have done something with that. Ah, well.
By the way, I did find a video of the trailer for this one--I'm not posting it, though. It's nothing but a montage of sex scenes. If you're really, really curious, you can Google it for yourself.

Throbin Hood

**** Throbin Hood. (NSFW link) Adult
Directed by: Cash Markman.
Starring: Alicia Allure, Angelica Sin, Ron Jeremy, Randy Spears
We rented this from Sugar DVD (NSFW link).
As you might guess from the title, it's more cheesy comedy porn, and bunches of fun. Ron Jeremy is Friar Fuck; Randy Spears is Sheriff Naughty Ham. And instead of Maid Marian, there's Mary Ann (Angelica Sin)
Since it is porn, the tax Throbin Hood (Alec Metro) and his merry men are protesting is a bit different, and instead of Prince John being behind the tax, it's Queen Caroline (Anna Malle). And the archery contest is a wee bit different as well.
In between a really nice assortment of vignettes, the story is narrated, in a way which reminded me a bit disturbingly of Disney's Robin Hood. The sex scenes had more variety than I usually see in this kind of movie, and there was also a nice variety of physical types among the actors.
Sadly, despite the nearly made-for-porn name, there was no Will Scarlett. But Randy Spears was such a good Sheriff he made up for it. Not quite as much fun as Alan Rickman, but then who is?

5 Rooms

***½ 5 Rooms. Adult.
Directed by: Jim Enright.
Starring: Devinn Lane, Randy Spears
This is basically the porn version of the movie Four Rooms: what happens in various rooms in a hotel, New Year's Eve, and a bellhop (a vastly amusing Devinn Lane) who gets peculiar requests.
There's the bachelorette party, with 3 rather hard-looking women whose stripper doesn't show up, so our bellhop is asked to fill in.
There's the married couple with Randy Spears as the workaholic spouse. I enjoy Randy Spears anyway, even in a non-comedy role, and his wife (played by "Dee") was very attractive--unusually so.
There are the two women who are looking for adventure who hire a couple of guys for the evening--they need the bellhop to bring condoms, which ends up being really funny.
There are the young lovers... well, she looks young ("Gauge" is really perfect for the part--she's very cute, and acted well), but he (Joel Lawrence) looked to be mid-30s at the youngest (I looked him up--he was 37 when the movie was made), and trying to act like an 18-year-old just didn't work.
And then our bellhop is cleaning up a room after a party, and discovers a naked young woman passed out, which is the funniest running storyline through the film. She gets her into a laundry cart, and... well, okay, I'm not going to tell you the whole story.
None of the vignettes alone was all that outstanding, and there was a lot of lesbian action which isn't my cuppa, but the added humor of the bellhop (who doesn't speak, by the way, until the very end) made it worth watching.

Camp Cuddly Pines Power Tool Massacre

****½ Camp Cuddly Pines Power Tool Massacre. Adult, comedy
Directed by: Jonathan Morgan
Starring: Stormy, Jessica Drake, Eric Masterson, Voodoo, Tommy Gunn, Randy Spears, Mike Horner
OMG, was this a fun movie. Right up there with Space Nuts. Only this time, instead of spoofing sci fi movies, it spoofs horror movies.
Kirsten (Stormy) and Megan (Jessica Drake) and their boyfriends Todd (Voodoo) and Josh (Tommy Gunn), the captain of the badminton team (!), and their geeky friend Rayford (Eric Masterson), who's making of video of their trip, are on their way to a rock concert when their van hits a vagrant that they proceed to tie to the top of the van, and then they end up lost in the woods near Camp Cuddly Pines.
Their cell phones don't get a signal there, so they split up to find a phone or reception or help. The girls run into the old caretaker (Mike Horner), who tells them the story of the Camp Cuddly Pines Power Tool Massacre, complete with flashbacks, one of which features Randy Spears as a sheriff.
The guys run into a variety of things: a Native American spirit guide (Cherokee), an attack raccoon, a creepy girl who climbs out of a well (Nicole Sheridan), and of course, the killer.
And of course, all the events involve sex scenes--it may be a horror spoof, but it's also porn.
There's a pretty good variety of sex scenes in here, though nothing too extreme. The actors are all attractive and reasonable-looking, and there's a distinct lack of scary fake boobs, which is always a plus. A couple of the women were very flexible--particularly the spirit guide. They also did a nice job on the flashbacks--the clothing and hairstyles from the 50s and the 80s (IIRC) were convincing and the actors fit their roles.
And there's one scene with Rayford that's shown partially through his video camera that's interesting and clever.
I'm not using "actors" lightly, either--as opposed to "performers," which is what you usually see in porn. They were convincing and the dialogue sounded realistic, and not stilted. Stormy, for example, was hilarious as the ditzy blonde, and Jessica Drake played her exasperated friend just right. Eric Masterson made a fun and convincing geek.
A review on the IMDB says "This spooky, comic sex romp is everything "Scary Movie" attempts to be, except with jokes that are actually funny." which says it all. As does the fact that a couple of times we were tempted to fast-forward through the sex scenes to get to the next part of the plot.
This was a nice blend of funny and sexy, maybe leaning a bit toward the funny side, and just good adult fun. I enjoyed it very much.

Take My Wife, Please!

*½ Take My Wife, Please! Adult.
Directed by: Jace Rocker.
Starring: Angela Summers, Britt Morgan, Peter North, Samantha Strong.
We got this one from our Sugar DVD queue (link is NSFW).
A group of bored suburban housewives decide to spice up their lives by swapping husbands.
Where to begin? The dialogue was wooden and improbable. The plot made no sense--one of the husbands turns down the idea then goes off and has sex with yet another woman. Another husband--a doctor (you can tell because he has a white lab coat and a stethoscope) is weirdly bumbling and clueless, etc.
And the sex scenes were dull. Which is really the cardinal sin for a porno. Nobody seemed to be enjoying themselves, and that was a little creepy.
I've looked at some other reviews of this one, and perhaps my problem is that this is from the 80s, and I just don't get it, not being familiar with the styles of porn movies then--kind of like how I react to a lot of older romance novels. Several of the reviews praised it for being cheesy. I don't see it--Space Nuts is cheesy. This was just bad.
I gave it an extra half-star because there weren't any scary fake breasts, and I found that refreshing.

The Widow
** The Widow (La Veuve). Adult.
NSFW cover below the fold.

Directed by: Tony Del Duomo.
Starring: Claudia Rossi, Horst Baron, Jennifer Stone, Laura Lion, Monica Sweetheart, Nomi, Oksana, Remigio Zampa, Tera Bond, Tony Carrera.
We got this one from Sugar DVD. Proof that Wicked Pictures has blah porn along with the fun ones.
Oksana is a young widow whose husband was killed by the mafia. She turns to the local mob boss for help, and ends up one of a group of widows forced to be sex slaves.
Well, that's what it says it's about, anyway. Mostly, it's just a lot of long, not-very-inventive sex scenes with the various widows having sex with various clients. It's mostly anal sex, though we had to ask each other every once in a while if that's what was going on, because you could really only tell during the close-ups.
Originally in French, I suspect the actors did their own dubbing, because they had French accents in English.
There wasn't much dialogue, several of the women looked fairly similar to each other, and the men were never really introduced, so that added to my impression that the movie was just one long dull sex scene after another. Worse was that there didn't seem to be much emotion at all. Even when Oksana is introduced to her new life, she doesn't seem shocked or upset or excited or anything. The same is true of the sex scenes. Nobody seems to be really enjoying themselves.
Maybe that was intentional--I don't know. It could be a French thing. I'm assuming the artistic camera angles and the unusual close-ups (one was of a pimple caused by, I assume, an ingrown pubic hair, that looked remarkably like a nipple) were French things.
Also French, and why this got 2 stars instead of 1, was that there weren't any scary fake boobs, and some of the men were uncircumsized.
Meh. There's better porn out there, but I can see how it would appeal to some viewers.

**½ Veronica's Game. Adult.
Directed by: Jim Enright
Starring: Randy Spears, Lauren Phoenix, Aria
Watched this last night after the ball, courtesy of Sugar DVD.
It's about controversial author Veronica (Lauren Phoenix), whose agent (Aria) is trying to get journalist Josh Love (Randy Spears) to write an article about her book. Josh Love is a womanizing misogynist who has no intention of doing so, until his editor threatens him.
Randy Spears is his usual funny self, but there's less story in this than I usually expect from Wicked Pictures. Still, there were some funny moments, and fairly real-looking actors (none of those scary, bolted-on implants). Veronica's "game" is supposed to be that she tricks him into being the subject of her next bestseller, but I didn't really see that.
Lots of fairly tame sex scenes, and pretty people. Not one I'd watch again, or recommend.
