Peeps Show III
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/gallery/2009/04/10/GA2009041001969.html?sid=ST2009070901266

What's an Easter basket without Peeps? If you're inclined to play with your Peeps, these dioramas might give you some inspiration. But love them or hate them, you have to enjoy the whimsical creativity of some of these artists.

This is a link to the third Peeps Show. The page also has links to the first two: (1 and 2). By the time this posts, there may even be a fourth. If there is, I'll add it.

It's just like the title says: odd things. From anti-gravity monuments to R2-D2 mailboxes, Stephen King's house and Harry Houdini's grave, blogger J. W. Ocker presents various odd things he's seen.

It's like a mini-encyclopedia of the odd.

Enjoy!

If you like South Park--and who doesn't?--this site lets you create your own South Park character.

Here's mine:

I made one earlier, but I couldn't find where I'd stored it, so I made a new one. Doesn't matter--the other one probably wouldn't have fit my current mood.

Have fun, and post pictures of the ones you make!

If you like roller coasters, then this is the site for you: a database of roller coasters.

From the first one I ever rode, the Wildcat at Cedar Point,
to the most recent one I rode, the Expedition GeForce at Holiday Park.

It even helped me figure out what coaster it was that Dagny rode at Astroworld when she was five: Greezed Lightnin' and the name of that amusement park we went to in Michigan when we visited my mom: Michigan's Adventure.

Lots of nostalgia there, and lots of roller coasters to drool over. And I note that Europa Park has ten roller coasters as opposed to Holiday Park's two. I'm thinking Rust can't be that far of a drive....

Enjoy!

http://www.videojug.com/

From the website: "Whatever you want to get good at, Videojug can help." The site has thousands of instructional videos covering just about everything.

For example, you know how uncomfortable it is if your arm gets trapped while you're cuddling in bed? Well, this video explains how to avoid that:

How To Avoid Trapped Arm Whilst Cuddling In Bed

and here's one that explains how to get cheap drinks:

Pub Tricks: The Cheapest Drink

and of course the classic shirt-folding video. I use this ALL THE TIME.

There are even more serious ones, like:

Enjoy! And let me know what YOU get good at.

Ever look at someone and think "that totally looks like..."? Well, so did the people at Totally Looks Like. In the tradition of I Can Has Cheezburger? and FAIL Blog, Totally Looks Like features reader-submitted pairings that are sometimes uncanny. A couple of examples:

Just a warning: as is true of similar sites, Totally Looks Like can be a real time sink. Peruse at your own risk.

We Hate Sheep. We Love Holiday Sweaters.
http://weloveholidaysweaters.wehatesheep.com/

You can either browse through the hundreds of sweaters others have designed, or create your own by clicking on "start knitting," like this one I did:

or this one:

And then you can send the sweater to your nearest and dearest, all without having to make sure it fits!

Enjoy!

Warning: this site can get addicting.

Create-a-Cookie
http://funcards.bhg.com/createacookie/

From the Better Homes and Gardens site--you know, the people who brought you the ubiquitous red and white checked cookbook. Decorate and send a virtual cookie. You have to register with the site to do it, but it's free.

Here's one I made:

Unfortunately, it doesn't come with little toothpicks for removing stray icing, and you can tell I don't have the steadiest mouse-hand in the world. Still, it's cute and fun, and there are a dozen different shapes you can you.

Enjoy!

This is pretty cool. You can make yourself into a Lego character... and then buy the character if you like. Or just use it as an avatar. Maybe I'll put this one up on Blogger.

Link of the Week

Just a cute little link this week that my mom sent me:

http://61226.com/share/hk.swf

Place your cursor at the top of the photo. You will notice it is 6:10 PM. Bring the mouse down slowly over the photo without pressing the button on the mouse. Do not right or left click. Night time appears, the lights come on, and at 7:40 PM, it's dark!

Click on the link--it doesn't work on the picture here.

FU, Penguin is the answer. Telling off all those hideously adorable animals. For anyone who likes their cute with a big dose of snark.

You're welcome.

This is another website I came across via This Is True. (If you haven't checked out This Is True, please click on the link--I recommend it highly.) As it says on the front page, "Sometimes Breathtaking. Sometimes Horrific. Each photo has the power to inspire."

Because they are "photos that changed the world," you've probably seen a lot of them already, but they're worth seeing again.

Here's a sample:

http://heidelbergdailyphoto.wordpress.com/

Heidelberg Daily Photo is brand-new, and the plan is to have daily photos of Heidelberg, which is where I'm currently living. So I'm finding this very cool, and posting this is a great way to share the city with you all. As a bonus, it's in English.

I found Heidelberg Daily Photo via an even cooler site, City Daily Photo:

http://citydailyphoto.com/portal/

City Daily Photo has photos and a current total of 933 links to photo blogs for different cities around the world. It's a great place to do a little virtual traveling, not to mention a bit of a time-sink.

And I found City Daily Photo via This Is True, the best newsletter I get:

http://www.thisistrue.com/

I featured This Is True here before, but it's been a while, and it's so good, it's worth repeating.

Enjoy!

As the subtitle says, this site is full of "weird & wonderful things." Everything from "how to become a real cyborg" to "pre-fractal art" to "best car chases on the web" to "abandoned tunnels and vast underground spaces." There's no limit to the variety of the weird and the wonderful on this site.

Just be warned: it can be a serious time-sink.
