Link of the Week #52

http://improbable.com/

I'm surprised I haven't featured Improbable Research before--it's a favorite.

The heading on the website is "Research that makes people LAUGH and then THINK." It's the online home of the magazine Annals of Improbable Research, which we subscribe to, and which is the source of this post. It's also the home of the IgNobel Prizes:
The Ig Nobel Prizes honor achievements that first make people laugh, and then make them think. The prizes are intended to celebrate the unusual, honor the imaginative -- and spur people's interest in science, medicine, and technology.
Some past winners:
  • The effects of sword-swallowing
  • How sheets get wrinkled
  • Why people dislike fingernails on a blackboard
  • Beer froth and the mathematical law of exponential decay
And if that's not enough, it's also the home of the Luxuriant Flowing Hair Club for Scientists™ (members include Catherine Asaro and Brian May).

Enjoy! Warning, though: it can be a huge time-sink if you find science at all interesting.
