Using their Music Genome Project, they analyze the various components of different artists or songs and then play songs that share the same characteristics. You can tweak your stations by letting them know when a song is either just right or all wrong.
The coolest thing is finding new artists, of course, and it's more reliable than just listening to the radio--the songs are tailored to your taste, and they always tell you the name of the song.
