TT #122
We've been making it a point to do more sightseeing in the area. These pictures (including the header) are from a recent drive to Burg Freienstein (English translation), a castle ruin we could see from the road on our way to my mother-in-law's. It took us a lot of wandering around this little town before we found a way up to the castle, but it was worth it.
I didn't capture it on camera, but the houses come up the hill right next to the castle. What a great place for kids! Most of the back yards had tree houses or forts--I suspect to keep the younger kids from wanting to wander up to the castle, which is undergoing some restoration work. You can see the metal rods sticking out in a few of the pictures--it's to keep the walls from crumbling further. I hope they succeed--this ruin has a lot more standing than a lot of the ones we've seen.
You can always click on the pictures to see a larger version.

Thanks, Melody! It was a rather cloudy day, so they aren't as bright as I'd have liked, but they're good enough for a nice memory. :)
Cool. I've learned a new appreciation for castles after meeting a family who built a replica of one. WAY cool.
What a great place to wander around ! I think the pic you cannot identify may be a silo.
One of these days I will figure out how to post without being blogger rejected. So if this shows up more than once...

What a great adventure goal! Once again Darla inspires me!! Thanks!
Carl pretty foxy! I haven't seen a photo of him. I'm glad you have each other!
hey - I have a couple books out - lemme know if you'd like copies. We're doing an 'into the wild' program where we release books to people who will pass them to someone else! ;)that sounds like you!

I love to see all the castles that you and Carl have taken with your camera! Always there something interesting to see....
I'm glad you all liked the pictures. I'm still chagrined that it took 14 years in Germany for me to get off my butt and go exploring, but we're really making up for it.
Jill, a silo, huh? It would be a small one--the top is the size of a small umbrella. But yeah, it could be. Mystery solved, maybe. Thanks!
LOL, Claudia, thanks. I kind of like him myself. :-) I'll send you an email.

Nice photos. I used to do castle/ruin exploration tours with my brother when I was younger. Well, actually, he went with his friends and I was the annoying little sister that tagged along. LOL
Good times...
That second picture really does look mysterious. I haven't got a clue what it could be either.

I don't believe I've ever been to a castle ruin and pictures like these always remind me that I REALLY want to visit one.
