Weekend Update
- This was a fairly uneventful week. No pictures, even.
- Last Saturday evening, we did go to the Roadside Theater to see Sweeney Todd as planned. I was very impressed. First, the theater itself is much nicer than the one in Kaiserslautern, though it is smaller, which is a shame because we never saw more than a handful of people in the audience in Kaiserslautern, while the theater here was sold out.
The lobby was big and well-lit, and there were two different refreshment areas. The programs and tickets were professional-looking. I should have scanned them, but I forgot. Next time. They had a lot of volunteers, working the ticket stand, the refreshment stands, and as ushers.
The play itself--I've only seen the movie, not the Broadway production, so I don't know if this was usual or not--but it was done with extremely minimal props. Costumes, and maybe three pieces of furniture. Despite that, they really made you believe--yes, I know: that's why they call it "acting." Also cool was that the chorus was sort of a part of it.
Camden came with us, and he enjoyed it a lot, too. One of his schoolmates was in the chorus, which he found interesting. Also part of the chorus was the wife of one of Carl's co-workers. The rest of the cast was varied--from servicemembers, to Germans, even an American student attending the University of Heidelberg. And one of our favorite actors from the Kaiserslautern theater was there too, though only in the chorus. For such a varied cast, they did an excellent job, I thought.
We'd opted not to get the season tickets, wanting to wait and see how it turned out, but I'm thinking next year we will. - Low-key, that is, except for the election. That was pretty exciting. Though we went to bed Tuesday night without watching any results, since nothing really happened until Wednesday morning here, and we knew that once we started watching, we wouldn't be able to get to sleep until we'd watched it all.
The phone rang at 5 a.m.--Curran, calling with the results. Carl didn't hear it, and I didn't go down to answer it, though it woke me up, and I couldn't fall back asleep. So I got up at 5:30 and went downstairs, turning on the TV in time to see Obama's speech. Which had me in tears a couple of times. Loved the puppy comment. Then Dagny called and we talked for a while about the election. - She was pretty happy until she went to work the next day, and a couple of her co-workers were just hysterically panicked about Obama's win. Seems they bought into all that hate- and fear-campaigning and were convinced that he was the Anti-Christ and that the nation was doomed.
That was a couple of days ago, and I'm still so angry I can't write clearly about it. - Camden's report card came this week: he got an A+ in band, A's in science, English, and history, and B's in German and algebra. I was really proud of him, especially since he's had such a rough transition--moving, leaving his brother in Texas (he and Curran are very close), and of course the huge amounts of homework that he's not used to.
- I got a call to come back for another mammogram--and an ultrasound as well, which has poor Carl all worried. I explained that it's just because I'm younger and have dense breasts (you'd think he'd like that part!) and they couldn't get a clear picture the first time, but he tends to be a worrywart.
- I got the curtains for the dining room finished, but I'm not sure I like them. They look okay, I guess. I'll leave them for now, and if I still don't like them once I get all the rest of the curtains done, then I'll do something about it.
- I finally--with the help of a buddy of Carl's--got that @*#($#@ adware off my desktop... but now it won't recognize my T-Online password. Don't remember if I posted about that here, but when I started using my laptop, I had to get a new password from T-Online to be able to use the internet. But that password doesn't seem to be working on the other computer, and it's not accepting the old one either, so I'll have to wait until Monday to call them up. *sigh* It's always something.
- Because I spent so much time doing that this morning, I opted out of doing an outing with Carl and Camden this afternoon. I still feel guilty about that, especially since it's one of the few nice days we'll have left. But yesterday I finally organized all the books on my desk--put away the ones I'd already reviewed and neatly stacked the 66 I have yet to review. 66! And that's not counting the ones on my e-reader. *whimper* It's not like I'm responsible to anyone but myself for that, but I'd really like to get caught up by the end of the year. I suppose it might be possible. Maybe. At least I'd like to reduce the stacks. That would be a good thing.
- Tomorrow we're going to Carl's mom's. She has bursitis on her knee--probably from all the extra walking she was doing with the new dog--so it'll be a low-key visit. Maybe we'll go out for ice cream or to dinner, but no castles or anything. Then Carl has Monday off and we're going to Kaiserslautern to Diva's vet to refill her prescription (we really need to find a local vet), and go by a few places we miss. Both Carl and Camden have Tuesday off, but we don't have plans yet. The weather report calls for rain, but things could change between now and then. Maybe we can find something indoors to do.
