Friday Flashback

From November 2002:

Just Kiss Me by Kathleen O'Reilly. Contemporary romance.

...this book definitely had me laughing aloud. As with all the best humor, though, there's a serious side to it as well. I don't think you can have humor without seriousness to give it something to contrast with.

Didn't Joe just break your heart?? Everyone thinking he's less than Avery. Including Joe himself. The saddest thing was that nobody thought anything of it. Avery loved his brother, he just thought he wasn't as smart/talented as he himself. And the parents.... They made me . Interesting, that the brothers' names reflected their personalities---"Avery" sounds more sophisticated, "Joe" sounds more plain. Names as destiny? (Think Dagny will grow up to run a railroad?. )

Only Amanda really saw him for who he was. She was just as happy with him as an airplane mechanic, and only wanted him to get his pilot's license if it made him happy.

I was a little concerned at the beginning, that Amanda & Joe being together would put a wedge between him and Avery, and Joe was concerned about that, too--enough to make him back off from Amanda, further breaking my heart. Fortunately, Avery realizes he's not really in love with Amanda.

Wonderful, wonderful story, Kathleen! I've been telling everyone about it.
