Out of Nowhere

****½ Out of Nowhere by Rebecca York. Romantic suspense.

Rebecca York is another author whose backlist I've been collecting. This one's not all that old: 2004.

Max Dakota, former spy, is a detective investigating a murder, when he's distracted: a woman just appeared on a bridge and plummeted into the water. He rescues her, then as soon as she recovers, she throws him into the water.

The woman Max dubbed Annie Oakley didn't remember who she was or how she got there. All she knows is that she's skilled at martial arts and weaponry and has unusual talents, like picking locks... and that she can't trust anyone.

But even though she's clearly not helpless, Max can't leave her alone, and they begin working together, both on Max's case, and on figuring out her identity and the mission she's beginning to realize she's on. Their romance is a particularly fun ride, spiced as it is with not knowing if the other is a danger to themselves or their missions.

Out of Nowhere is a fabulous combination of romance, suspense, and ****semi-spoiler****science fiction**** and could have been written just for me. It's no wonder I'm such a fan of Rebecca York's--she writes exactly the kind of books I like.
