TT #92

Favorite Movies Meme

I stole this from Carrie Lofty, and decided to turn it into a Thursday Thirteen.

Da Rulz:
1. Pick 10 of your favorite movies.
2. Quote a line from each.
3. Post them for everyone to guess.
4. No Google/IMDB cheating!! Srsly. What's the fun in that??

Post your answers/guesses in the comments, and taking a page from Carrie's book, I'll put the titles up once they're guessed.

**note: I've added extra hints for the last four, since they're a bit more obscure (though I must say, I thought all writers loved #4). Good luck!

  1. "Don't you dare strike that brave, unbalanced woman."

extra hint: "You. You in the blanket! You seem to have caused all this trouble. Exactly what have you got to say for yourself?"

  2. "You want to talk to God? Let's go see him together, I've got nothing better to do." ~ Raiders of the Lost Ark
Ah, Indy. I just finished watching this while exercising. Great motivation!

  3. "They're gonna need some more FBI guys, I guess." ~ Die Hard
Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman, lots of action, and a handful of laughs. mmm.... perfect.

  4. "The important thing, kid, is that you're doing something you like to do."

extra hint: "She thinks she's a character in a book. She thinks I'm a character in a book. She even thinks my mother is a character in a book. The woman is crazy!"

  5. "Oh, it's probably some kind of hunting lodge for rich weirdos." ~ The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The epitome of camp. Great songs, too.

  6. Mr. A: "I didn't steal any money! She just saw me with another woman! You're French, you understand that!"
Mr. B: "To be with another woman, that is French. To be caught, that is American."

extra hint: "Fellas, last year I made 3 million dollars, but your 50 thousand was the most fun. Are you ready? Then let's go get 'em."

  7. "Listen, I'm a politician which means I'm a cheat and a liar, and when I'm not kissing babies I'm stealing their lollipops. But it also means I keep my options open." ~ The Hunt for Red October
Another one I watched while exercising--this one was more distracting than motivating, but that works, too.

  8. "Wow! You're a genius. You're like the Ernest Hemingway of bullshit." ~ Housesitter
Kind of a modern screwball romantic comedy. Plus--what a cool house!

  9. "The stairs are always San Juan Hill." ~ Arsenic and Old Lace
I love Cary Grant, and this is just so funny. I've seen it as a play, too, and it's wonderful.

  10. "Ever wish you could freeze frame a moment in your day, and look at it and say "this is not my life"?" ~ Mrs. Doubtfire
Whenever our daughter visits, we have to watch this at least once a week, usually more. She never gets tired of it.

  11. "The ladies are dirty. Walk away. The ladies are dirty." ~ Gone in 60 Seconds
Cars, action, Nicholas Cage. And the "holy grail" was a Mustang. Very cool.

  12. "And I take the sardines. No, I leave the sardines. No, I take the sardines."

extra hint: "Think of the first night as the dress rehearsal. If we can just get through the play once tonight - for doors and sardines. That's what it's all about, doors and sardines. Getting on, getting off. Getting the sardines on, getting the sardines off. That's farce. That's - that's the theatre. That's life."

  13. "We ain't great. We're just some guys from Jersey." ~ Eddie and the Cruisers
Loved the music, loved the mystery. And Michael Pare.

This isn't even remotely close to an exhaustive list of my favorite movies, or even my top 13. I don't think I could even come up with a favorite 100. Still, these are favorites, and ones I will watch over and over.

Hint: the most recent movie on the list is from 2000. The oldest is from 1944.

Okay, I don't know the movie, but now I might watch it because I like the quote,"Mr. A: "I didn't steal any money! She just saw me with another woman! You're French, you understand that!"
Mr. B: "To be with another woman, that is French. To be caught, that is American."
Let me know the movie. Happy TT!

2. Raiders
3. Die Hard

That's all I got :)

I was thinking #2 was from Lethal Weapon. I recognized #3 but couldn't place it until I saw Carrie's comment. #7 is from Red October (love Sean Connery!)

UGh! It's killing me. I MUST know the answers! I haven't a clue.

You put me to the test with this one. I'm a movie buff and yet I drew a blank! Ah. lol

#8: Housesitter
#9: Gone is 60 Seconds
#13: Eddies and the Cruisers?

- Renee

Brenda, that's one of the movies my kids watch over and over again, too. That one and #10. Not that that's at all helpful.

Yes--Die Hard and Raiders. I recently re-watched both of them while exercising. Great motivators!

Ditto to Hunt for Red October.

Renee--you came up with quite a few--and all correct, too.

Wow. I would have failed that one!

Oh! While I love movies, I'm terrible at this game! I can remember hearing some ~ if not all ~ of these quotes, but won't remember the movie until someone else does!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

EW.... great list! I love your quotes. That doesn't surprise me because I like your lists so much. I never remember the quotes then I remember some specifically.... Who knows how the mind works?

Happy TT!

Hmm. Watching movies while exercising. I could do that, I bet.

Of course, that means we have to put a TV and DVD player in the basement with my bike, and I wouldn't watch much in the summer, but it would also mean riding the trainer would get less boring...

Hmmm....

Susan, since half the time I do exercise videos, a TV and VCR are a must for wherever I'm exercising. The movies definitely keep the other exercising from getting too boring, but it has to be a movie I've seen before, otherwise I get too distracted and just sit there. :)

While I love #4, I don't know it, but #10 is from Mrs. Doubtfire.

Thanks for stopping by my another promotion bites the dust edition.

Love Eddy and the Cruisers, Love Indianna Jones (I am so excited about the new one, can't wait!) love Diehard...

I can't identify the others...oh and Housesitter...that must win the prize for the most I've laughed during a movie...just thinking about Martin singing Danny...or her taking her dance lessons cracks me up...

Cheers,
Candy

I love Housesitter, something about Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin together in it...wonderfully cute. But I didn't guess the line.

The only one I feel completely confident about is #9. It's from Arsenic and Old Lace, one of My Sweetie's favorite movies. :)

Happy TT, and thanks for coming by.

~X

Mrs. Doubtfire and Arsenic and Old Lace are correct.

#1 is my daughter's other absolute favorite. Between the two of us, we can practically recite the entire thing.

From the ones left I don't recognize anything. Happy TT.

No time to guess, but I love the game.

We speak about 10% of our lives from movie quotes!

# 5 - Rocky Horror Picture Show!!!!

Aw - Nissa said mine already... My favorite, that is.

This was GREAT, Darla! I love that Indiana Jones quote. I may have to steal this T13 for a not-too-distant future.

I hardly knew any!!! Did you notice the sardine reference in my TT?

I sucked at this one1 Great idea for a TT!

Yay rich weirdos!

(yes, I'm a big fan, and yes, I still remember nearly all of the audience's lines)

Please add me to your blogroll.

:( I know none of them. I actually don't think I've seen any of them (oh, wait, I saw Rocky Horror Picture Show!) :)

I knew a few that you already had the answers up for, and one that I don't see up there yet.

#6 is definitely Dirty, Rotten Scoundrels. I don't usually like Steve Martin, but he was funny in this, and hilarious opposite Micheal Caine!

What a great idea for a list. Love it. Happy TT and thanks for stopping by:)

I feel stoopid...no guesses. Great list!

I enjoyed your thirteen! I tried to do a movie quote post and couldn't really think of any ORIGINAL quotes like these. I wound up using one movie - Raising Arizona.

Be blessed.

Jen

I'm ashamed to say that I didn't guess even one of those quotes, even though I know and love some of the movies. Very, very embarrassing. ;-)

Hmmm... # 12 sounds like it's from 'Noises Off' - *LOVE* that movie.

This is a great TT idea - really fun!

Wow ... This is an old TT ... and no one has guessed the rest of these yet ...

I knew them right off the bat ... but then most of these are my fav movies ... and I didn't even need the extra hints.

#1 WHAT'S UP DOC - Babs and Ryan O'Neil ... What's not to love.

#4 AMERICAN DREAMER - I want those clothes too!

#6 DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS - Great comedy duo - Michael Caine and Steve Martin - I wish they would do another movie.

#12 - NOISES OFF ... That is one wonderful screw-ball comedy ... awesome cast.
