Sex and the Single Vampire

This is the second book in MacAlister's series about Dark Ones (vampires).
Allegra Telford is a Summoner, but she's not a very good one. So far, she hasn't managed to summon any ghosts at all, and her job is on the line. She's in London, making her last-ditch effort--after all, England is just teeming with paranormal activity, right?
She dreams of a man lying on a table in a dark basement, bleeding, and he says she's the only one who can help him. When she wakes up, she succeeds in summoning her first ghost: a cat.
She thinks she's on a roll when, the next day, she sees the bleeding man from her dreams, and assumes he's a ghost and tries to help him move on. When it turns out he's alive, she goes to call for help, only to find that there's no sign of him when she returns with the police.
Things get stranger when she attends a book signing for her friend Corrine's favorite author: C. J. Dante and recognizes him as the man in the basement.
Turns out Christian (C. J.) is a Dark One (vampire), and his friends are helping him look for his Beloved. They insist that Allegra is his Beloved, but both Christian and Allie deny it.
Meanwhile, Allie's ghost summoning is getting better, but now she can't get rid of them. She has her hands full with the ghosts advising her on her love life, dealing with Christian's reluctant attentions, and trying to stay away from a shady group that's capturing and holding summoned ghosts.
Sex and the Single Vampire has Katie MacAlister's trademark first-person humor. It's a lot of fun to watch this couple being drawn together despite their better judgment: Christian knows Allie can't be his Beloved because she's not remotely the sweet pliable young woman he'd envisioned, and Allie's certainly not going to get involved with such a dominating man--she's been there and done that, and has the scars to prove it. Fortunately, we readers (and since it's first person, that means Allie can, too, even if she doesn't want to admit it) are aware from the start that Christian may be gruff and bossy, but he's not abusive.
I'd inadvertently read the third book--Sex, Lies, and Vampires (#13)--before this one, but I have the next three in my TBR pile. I'm looking forward to them.

I love this story! Very funny! And the fact that the heroine isn't a perfect "10" makes it even better. *wg*
You know I don't read vamps, right? But I find myself truly enjoy reading Katie MacAlister vamps book. And I think I have read about all of the vamp and the last one I remember reading was "Even Vamps Get the Blue". I haven't read the next installment after that, and I know I need to pick up on that again. Darn, Darla....why do you have to go and read the book and than to remind me bout this! LOL
