BTT #24

Note: scroll down for the ThursdayThirteen.

Booking Through Thursday

Desperation:
  1. What’s the most desperate thing you’ve read because it was the only available reading material?
  2. If it was longer than a cereal box or an advertisement, did it turn out to be worth your while?

  1. Well, there was the time on vacation when I ran out of books and ended up reading the horror novels I'd packed for my husband. And there was the time I was stuck bookless at my in-laws' (I think we'd intended to go home, but the weather got bad or something) and ended up reading my brother-in-law's erotica. Worst, though, was when I was stuck in a traffic jam with nothing to read. I ended up reading the owner's manual to the car from cover to cover (it was a really long traffic jam!).
  2. The horror novels were actually much better than I'd expected them to be. So was the erotica, once I got over being creeped out by them belonging to my brother-in-law. The owner's manual... well, I did learn a few things I didn't know about the car, but geez, it was boring.

The traffic jam would be far worse, no books at all! But at least you know your cars inner thoughts now.;)

And that's why I have books in my Earthquake Preparedness Kit.

I think I'd be a bit squicked out by reading my BIL's erotica, too. But it could be worse, it could have belonged to your Mother-In-Law. ;)

Happy BTT!

OMG the manual! LOL.

I've read my parent's car manual! Never thought of that when I posted my answer to this meme.

LOL Darla - I was worry there for min when you said you read your BIL erotica books. Is there such a things ;)

Great answer - and Happy BTTs!

At work I have my emergency book about the Incas for lunch time distraction; I brought it in after having spent a week working through parts of the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel code instead ...

Ouch! That's more painful than the car manual!

I now have a historical trivia book in the car for unanticipated waits. :)
