  1. Almost everyone can name at least one author that you would love just ONE more book from. Either because they’re dead, not being published any more, not writing more, not producing new work for whatever reason . . . or they’ve aged and aren’t writing to their old standards any more . . . For whatever reason, there just hasn’t been anything new (or worth reading) of theirs and isn’t likely to be.

If you could have just ONE more book from an author you love . . . a book that would be as good any of their best (while we’re dreaming) . . . something that would round out a series, or finish their last work, or just be something NEW . . . Who would the author be, and why? Jane Austen? Shakespeare? Laurie Colwin? Kurt Vonnegut?

  1. Evelyn E. Smith. She wrote a series about a middle-aged female assassin, Miss Melville, that I just loved. There were only 4 books (it lists 5, but the 5th book, to my knowledge, was never released--I've never been able to find it anywhere, not even Amazon or ebay--and if it's not on Amazon or ebay, it must not exist!), and I really, really wish she'd written more. It would also be lovely to have another story from Rex Stout (who looks a heck of a lot like my dad in that picture) and Agatha Christie.

I've never heard of her, but am intrigued by the premise... I'm going to go look her stuff up right now!

Agatha Christie would get my vote as would some other contemporary writers of hers such as Erle Stanley Gardner and John Dickson Carr aka Carter Dickson and Mignon G. Eberhart. (I read these authors when I was in middle school, high school. Can you tell I was a total mystery buff?)

When we lived in England I found this writer who wrote British mysteries that focuse on the police and MI5 or 6? Anyway, I don't remember who it was, but I remember how few books she wrote in the series. You couldn't even buy them. The library got me a copy of one book on interlibrary loan and it was the only copy in London. It had a page torn but I didn't care. I honestly can't say the writer was dead. I don't know. I just know I liked her writing and couldn't understand why she didn't have more of a following.

Btw, very cool topic.

I'd love many more books from Pheobe Gilman and James Marshall. They were swept from the kidlit world much too soon!

Mysteries! I would vote for Janwillem van de Wetering, whose Amsterdam mysteries were so atmospheric and Zen.

I would love more books from Flannery O'Connor. She died so tragically young and I feel she had many more stories in her to tell.

Evelyn Smith? Well...I've never heard of her!! I just thought of another one though....Kate Ross. She wrote the Julian Kestrel mysteries. I think she only got through 4 before she died. They were really good!

Agatha Christie! Oh YES...I've forgotten about mentioning her name as well. Thanks for bringing it up, Darla.

Stegner, it's got to be Wallace Stegner, he's my absolute favorite writer.

I never heard of Agatha Christie *gasp*! *dead silence fill the room*....heheh

Although these authors are not dead yet, I want Julie Garwood to go back to scottish historical time. I also want Lisa Valdez to hurry and write her second book Patience. It seem like this book won't ever be release...but if Lisa hurry and give us the release date I would like to add her to my lists to buy :)

You never heard of Agatha Christie??! Murder on the Orient Express?? And Then There Were None?? Get to your library, Julia! I'm sure they have lots of Agatha Christies.
