BTT #7

Booking Through Thursday

Writing in Books, Part 2:
  1. A couple weeks ago, we asked about how you take care of your books, with one of the questions asking whether you write in your books. Well, what about books that are meant to be written in? Like, say, a journal or diary? Do you keep one? Obviously, if you're answering this, you have a blog--do you just let your blog be your journal? Or do you also keep one for private stuff also?

  1. I do have a lovely little Reading Notes journal. But it's solely a list of books I intend to buy and book/author recommendations. I don't keep a journal or diary, except for my blog, and that's mostly about my thoughts about what I read.

Darla - Always love to be your first person to comments LOL....

I probably need to start keeping journal on books I read too, but then I kept most on my computer file. More easier for me. But I do cringed of the though if my computer crash *shudder*

I knew you don't keep a journal or diary, but I truly enjoy reading your thoughts on what books you read. It always entertaining :)

Hi Darla!!!

I have a kind of 'scrapbook" I have always kept sketch books with quotes and ideas in them...and I suppose they are a kind of journal. The thing is I've treid journalling many times, but it is too literal and I get bored..even I get bored reading my things. I find blogging a kind of journal...and it makes me think because I also want to be clear to communicate with others...and I also feel my ideas and morals to be accountable. I find that very challenging and fun.

I do not write in my books...I often use post it notes though to mark significant or meaning ful passages for future reference and for my online bookclubs so i can quote sections.

Good questions!

There isa book published a couple years ago called Marginelia I think...all about notes found in books, a fun idea.

Here is my last TT list:

I hope we can stay in contact Darla, it's been great to meet you!

In my journal of books I have read I have only occasionally written a note about the book. And that note is usually just "YUCK" or "WOW". Stupid stuff. I find I don't even pay attention to what I wrote about the book because it so depends on my mood when I read it! What I pay attention to is how many books by any author I have read. That indicates to me how much I enjoyed it.

Perhaps if, like you, I kept better notes, I would remember more!

Hi Darla, I don't keep notes of the books I read/buy/recommendations, so I'm impressed that you did that! I think it's a great idea, since I tend to have a short memory, haha.

Meeyauw, I've only been keeping track like this for a little over two years, and it's been less than a year that I've made a point of really writing down what I thought about the books I've read. It's made a big difference--not only can I look back through the blog and refresh my memory, but the act of sorting through and writing down my thoughts makes a book stick in my mind longer.
