Booking Through Thursday

  1. How many unread books do you have in your house, right now? (Your own books, that is--not ones that belong to other family members--and not counting things like school books, if you have them.) Clearly, an estimate will do.

  2. To the best of your recollection, what is the OLDEST unread book in your collection? How long has it been waiting?

  3. Do your TBR books (that's "To Be Read," if you didn't know) haunt you, make you feel guilty that you haven't read them yet?

Oh, and library books don't count . . . not unless you absolutely don't have ANY other unread book except what you checked out last Tuesday.

  1. 436. I counted. It's been a while since I counted, and I wanted to know. I think I was happier not knowing. That doesn't include the unread nonfiction books because they're not in the official TBR pile, or the books belonging to other family members that I intend to read when/if they ever finish them.

  2. I have no idea. I've been trying to rotate them pretty well, but I'm sure there are some that have been in the TBR pile for 5 years or so. As for oldest by date, that would probably be one of the old science fiction books I bought at the flea market several years ago.

  3. Slightly. When the TBR pile overflows its bounds, which it has at the moment, I feel guilty about letting my acquisitions outpace my reading. And when I see a discussion about a book I know is somewhere in my TBR pile, it does tend to haunt me. Speaking of which, I really need to dig out Betina Krahn's The Book of True Desires.

My problem is not the unread books, it's the lack of unread books. I sometimes get to the point where I start rereading.

Want to borrow some, Jenn? :)

WOW Darla - 436! You got me beat! I do have other older books that been sitting in my TBR piles too, but the one I recall was the one I posted at my blog ;)

Hey I post my first TT today! So..am I suppose to go to TT website to let them know too? Or is starting from here is okay?

Oh my what a toughie you are I am kind of a fraid to look...but I know it's not over 400, I'm guessing 10-15....

Let me look...

well, it's 8 right now...sorry. I feel guilty.

But I actually stop myself from accumulating more books if my TBR pile gets too big. I approach reading much like homework, that is if I had been a good student. I literally work my way through them like a pitbull. I have to...because in the past I would get down with a huge list of books around I hadn't read.

The enxt is easy...the oldest TBR book is Bleak House. I've been meaning to read it for at least 3 years but mone of my online book clubs has it in que so I am confident I will be eading it within the next couple of months.

Yes, an online book club also helps me motivate to treat reading liek an assignment I must say.

I have answered the last question already..b.ecause yes an unread pile of books does haunt me so much so that I get very motivated to work my way throguh them, plus, I won't allow myself to bring any more books to be read into my place untill I wrap up a huge pile if it gets big.

What a terrific idea for a post!

Okay I'm off to your TT list..

here is mine for this week

I'd really hate to count...I hope it's not as bad as 436!

Lately I've started to feel guilty about continued buying despite my stalled reading, but not enough to put a halt to things completely.

I count nonfic and fic in the same TBR pile. My oldest TBR book? Stephen Hawking's A BrieFER History of Time. I have a New Year's resolution that I AM going to finish it this year!

Wow, that's a lot of books, Darla!

And all my TBR books are kept in the bookshelf for easy accessing; while the read ones are packed in boxes and stored in the storeroom. When I'm really free (which is rarely), I will go through them and donate some to the library.

436??? Great googly moogly that's a library. :)

WOW Darla, you made my day. I don't feel so bad now after seeing your TBR mountain! You will never be without a book on hand.
