The Last 13 Movies I Watched

  1. Mrs. Doubtfire. Every time our daughter visits, she watches this movie. Several times. There's a sequel in the works. I'm sure she'll be thrilled.

  2. RV. Continuing with the Robin Williams comedy theme... Saw this in the theater. Some laugh-aloud moments, and some things we could relate to from our trips with our travel trailer.

  3. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Saw this in the theater, too. Went to the most remote and generally least crowded of the local AAFES theaters, on a Thursday night, and it was still packed. Unfortunately, it was during the few weeks of actual summer weather we had, and the a/c was either nonexistent or not up to the challenge of cooling the theater. So we enjoyed it, but the heat was really distracting.

  4. Mission Impossible III. Yes, we're insane. We went back to the same theater the very next night to see this one. Unsurprisingly, it was much less crowded. It wasn't bad, it wasn't great. And I did pretty well just ignoring all the wacko-ness of Tom Cruise. I'm much happier not knowing anything about actors' private lives, really, but this one makes me feel bad, because we have a friend who's a dead ringer for Cruise.

  5. Mrs. Right. From our Sugar DVD queue. Meh. Normally, the Wicked Pictures movies are funny, but this one... a woman scorned gets back at the 3 guy who spurned her--by making herself into the woman of their dreams, giving them the best sex of their lives, and then leaving. Um.... I'm still trying to figure out how this was supposed to punish them. And the star had creepy hair.

  6. Broken Arrow. I watched this on VHS while exercising (it's easier to exercise to tapes than DVDs because you don't have to search for where you left off the last time). Psycho Travolta, kinda hot Christian Slater, lots of explosions and chase scenes--good for exercise motivation.

  7. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. When Carl's gone, which he has been for 2 weeks (he'll be home tomorrow), the boys and I have a tradition of watching movies from our collection that 1) they haven't seen and 2) they normally wouldn't watch. This was the first one. We'd avoided it beause it's rated R, but turns out it's only rated R because of a few F-bombs. Curran's 16, Camden's 11. They've heard it before. Funny, and more dramatic than I'd remembered.

  8. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I couldn't believe they hadn't seen this. We'd discussed it while Dagny ws still here, but never got around to watching it. They were hesitant, but it's the rule that I pick out the movies when it's just the 3 of us. They loved it, and didn't even complain (much) when I sang along to all the songs. "Toot Sweets" is still going through my head every once in a while, as is "Truly Scrumptious."

  9. Dances with Wolves. This is the kind of movie for which I started the tradition--it's definitely not the sort of thing the boys will watch on their own, and we always tended to underestimate their tolerance for drama. Unsurprisingly, they loved this one, too.

  10. All of Me. Then the mail came, and with it 3 DVDs I got great deals on. This was the first one. Steve Martin again, and Lily Tomlin. Classic physical humor, and the immortal line "back in bowl." (okay, maybe that's just me)

  11. They Call Me Trinity. Western comedy I remembered from my childhood--vividly. I saw this at the drive-in with my parents, and remembered the theme song, and the scene when Trinity shot the guy in the butt through the balcony. I thought it would appeal to the boys' sense of humor, and it did.

  12. Hitch. My first experiment in buying a used DVD from Netflix. The boys were more amused by Albert's dancing than the romantic hijinks, but I'm not surprised. It was a cute movie, and Will Smith would probably be on my short list, should I ever write one.

  13. Trinity Is Still My Name. Second movie on the DVD. Still fun. We missed the whistling theme song from the first movie, but the farting baby probably made up for it. I'll have to look for more movies in this series--I think they like it even more than Bonanza.

Great idea for a T13!

I love Mrs. Doubtfire too, but a sequel. I don't think I can stand that hairy-Robin Williams shave one more time!

I *love* Mrs. Doubtfire & long to one day get to tell someone "It was a drive by fruiting"!! Haven't seen RV yet; hubby hasn't taken the time to finish hooking up the rest of the tv equipment; he's just focusing on his Tivo. Haven't gotten to see #3 yet & yes I'm pouting. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a classic that I haven't introduced to the kids yet but hope to soon. Love #9, 10, & 12. Great list!

Thanks for stopping by my TT. Have a terrific Thursday. :-)

I've wanted to buy used DVDs from Netflix, but have hesitated. I'm assuming your experience went well?

Great list! I can imagine the heat in the theater compromised your viewing experience. Boo-wah!

I saw Pirates, though I wasn't as impressed as most people. I think the last one will be better

All great movies, it's hard to choose. Mrs. D, POTC, and Hitch are all my favorites.
Have a great Thursday!

Mrs. Doubtfire was just too funny.
RV was great. Favorite scenes were the raccoons, when they left home and trying to email the presentation.
LOL!
Thanks for coming by my TT
Frances

I really enjoyed Hitch. I was into the Netflix thing and think it's great, but then got hooked on HBO.

I love Mrs. Doubtfire, maybe because I am a Robin Williams' fan! We recently watched the Pirates 1 on DVD, really enjoyed it. Happy TT :)

The Trinity movies -- !! Loved 'em. Consider renting Steve Oederkerk's "Kung Pow Enter the Fist." Trust me, it's funny. It does to martial arts movies what Trinity did to westerns.

Oh, I love 3, 6, and 9. Broken Arrow is one that I can watch over again and so is Dances With Wolves.

My late husband spent some time in Germany in the early fifties when he was in the Army. He liked it there.

Thank you for stopping by.

Haven't watched most of them.. I'm more of a reader than a watcher.. Yep. Big freak me. :)

Happy TT!
Thanks for visiting!

Great list! I love love love All of Me! And totally get "back in bowl"!! The toilet flush/phone ringing cracks me up! (I'm so easily amused) Think I will go add it to my netflix queue right now!

And another thing....The Trinity movies a just awesome. Think I need to see those again! I was just looking a microfilm from 71-73 from my hometown newspaper and saw them in there.....and fondly remember seeing them in the theater. Probably took a dollar with me - got in the movie, and got popcorn and soda. Ah, the good old days!

I can't wait to see RV with Robin Willimas. Great list. -Margie

Shannon: that was the concensus here--none of us could figure out how they could make a sequel work. Which won't stop us from going to see it, you understand.

Kukka-Maria: I don't know that they allow cats to buy things on Netflix, but yes, I had a decent experience with my one sample. It was cheap, arrived quickly, and wasn't all scratched up.

JEM: There were some scenes in RV that are destined to be classics. The family song was pretty hilarious, too.

Doug: I knew you had good taste. :) Thanks for the recommendation--we've already got Enter the Fist.

Trish: I'm more of a reader than a watcher, too (just look at the rest of the blog)--it's been an unusual month.

Cooth: Oh, good, I'm not alone!

i'm wondering what a doubtfire sequel would be about. i'll be waiting to see.
great list. lots of action and comedy.
thanks for visiting my tt this week.

found you through Cooth's 13...I just bought my daughter the Mrs. Doubtfire movie!! Great list...I'm up at http://justtug.blogspot.com/

Johnny Depp was once again amazing in the sequel of Pirates of the Caribbean. I think my human pet hearts him intently!

Hitch is such a terrific movie that, even to me, it never gets old!

Mmm, movies, mabe I'll get a chance to watch one today.

When you said Planes, Trains an autos wa rated R I dropped my jaw but then I realised the U rating system is different than ours. I think your R might be our MA because our R is 18+ and usually is granted to movies with really expicit sex scenes, or horrble violence.

I suspect, though I'm too lazy to look it up, that Planes, Trains, & Automobiles came out before we had the PG-13 rating.

Okay, I looked it up. PG-13 was around then (1987), but it wasn't as common. According to Wikipedia,
Planes, Trains & Automobiles R-rating is due to a single scene in which Steve Martin's character goes on a tirade against a car rental agent, played by Edie McClurg. The word "fuck" is used nineteen times in one minute, making this the sole reason for the film receiving an R-rating.
Unbelievable.

Oh, man, I LOVE Pirates and Johnny Depp! Couldn't wait until that came out on DVD so I could watch it myself. Thanks for visiting my TT :)

Hey Darla,

How ya doing, I love movie lists, you inspired me, I'm going to do one next week. It's a lot lighter and fun topic than my list this week. Ha ha

I liked a lot of these movies.

Me too, saw MI# in theatres, it was okay, not great, I agree with you. Going to see Little Miss sunshine tonight, should be fun.

Thanks for dropping by my blog!

Cheers,
Candy
