The SF Meme

I snagged this from Doug, who got it from Jon Hansen’s blog:

“Behold, the SF Book Club’s list of The 50 Most Significant SF & Fantasy Books, 1953-2002. And no list like that can go without someone somewhere turning it into a meme. Shocking, this internet.

So, the rules: Bold the ones you have read, strike through the ones you read and hated, italicize those you started but never finished and put a star next to the ones you love.”

Let’s make this at least marginally interesting. Any books here I haven’t read which you consider an absolute MUST?

  49. Timescape, Gregory Benford
  50. To Your Scattered Bodies Go, Philip Jose Farmer
I might have read some of the others and not remembered them--in my teens and early 20s, I read a lot of sf/f, but apparently not the famous ones.

You have to read Snow Crash. You'll love it. Stephenson is a little bit TOO in love with his computer geekery, but there are so many other fun things in Snow Crash, I can forgive him his "Computer Geeks ROOL" ending. And, no, I haven't given anything away.

I have tried to read Lord of the Rings but just never finish it. However I love the movies! Really enjoy it

I have read the first 4 books in Harry Potter and like it. But I love the movie too. So both way are good to me :)

I have seen Inteview with the Vampires and love that one but couldn't read the book. There goes my reason point again, it seem I like watching vamps in movies but not in books. I don't know why...guess am just..weird LOL

I tried Terry Pratachett but just never got to through the first book. Something must be wrong with me. Maybe if it was made into TV movie, then maybe I can imagine and vision it?

Great list of books, Darla. I never read the one you listed that I never heard of before :)

Snow Crash. Check. I'll put it on my list.
